Can we accept a student into our accredited program that completed hours elsewhere?

When an organization allows students to transfer in education or training hours from another ICF accredited program, 100% of these hours can be accepted into the organization’s Level 1 or 2 program. The participant would still need to meet all requirements of the levelled program they have enrolled in, including completing the total minimum number of education hours, 10 hour of mentor coaching, required number of observed coaching sessions and a final performance evaluation.  The organization may choose to test the student or vet the training to see which of the hours qualify and which portions of similar curriculum have already been covered.

If the organization chooses to allow non-accredited training for transfer, note that no more than one-third (1/3) of the total program hours can be hours transferred from a non-ICF-accredited program.

The organization can choose not to transfer in hours, or to allow transfers.  In the accreditation application, the process for transferring credits will need to be described in the organization's Transfer of Credit Policy, which is mandated by Standard 2. This policy describes the steps participants must follow to submit hours earned from another program to their current school of enrollment. It also details how these hours can be applied toward completing any remaining requirements in order to receive a Leveled Certificate.
