Who is eligible to be a Mentor Coach?

Modified on Wed, Oct 21 at 5:06 PM

The eligiblity requirements to provide Mentor Coaching is changing.

Through December 31, 2026

No, you do not need to be listed on the Mentor Coach Registry to serve as a mentor coach.

At this time, the only requirement to provide mentor coaching is that you hold an active ICF credential at the level the applicant is applying for, or higher. The exception is ACC‑credentialed coaches, who must complete one renewal before becoming eligible to serve as a mentor coach.

Beginning January 1, 2027

Mentor coaching completed for either an initial credential application or a credential renewal must be conducted by a mentor who holds an ICF Mentor Coach Specialization (MCS) at the level for which mentoring is needed.

Individuals who hold an MCS will be automatically included in the Mentor Coach Registry. To continue providing mentor coaching beyond January 1, 2027, and to be listed on the registry, you will need to obtain an MCS at each level at which you wish to mentor.
