Why does Mentor Coaching have to be a minimum of 3 months for an ICF Credential?

Modified on Sat, Apr 5 at 4:54 PM

entoring involves several cycles where the coach is listened to, receives feedback, reflects on it, and practices new skills. This process should be repeated multiple times.

We believe the span of at least three months (12 weeks) is needed to provide time for the coach being mentored to absorb the feedback and build it into their practice.  We highly encourage individuals seeking to gain or renew a credentialed to maximize the benefits of mentoring by starting mentor coaching as soon as they are ready to elevate their skills.

Mentor coaching does not expire, so you may gain the 10 hours required over an extended period of time.

Note: For renewing a credential, mentor coaching must be started and completed within the current renewal cycle.  Past mentoring cannot be used for a future renewal.
